Art Investment - Newsfeed

Recent reports and some might say...Christie's prediction for growth and the Art Markets in general are that, Asia is a ever increasing Art Market and is not currently effected by the global trends of a slowing of growth in worldwide ecconomies.  Indeed, Asia, China and other regions continues to offer exceptional Art Investment oportunities both now and for the coming months of 2012.  All this dispite the 'Doom & Gloom' of the European & Global slow down in their ecconomies.

Christies Contemporary Art Sale Could Fetch Millions: Works by Klein and Pollock

Sally Turner | May 4, 2012 4:34pm EDT | 2min:00sec

Christie's auction house previewed its upcoming post-war and contemporary pieces in New York: with works by Mark Rothko, Yves Klein, Jackson Pollock and others are all expected to bring in millions of dollars. The top lot in the sale is a work by Mark Rothko called "Orange, Red, Yellow", in many ways it's a classic Rothko, large, colorful and it could fetch anywhere between 35 and 45 million dollars. Another large piece that is expected to reach an expensive price tag is a piece by Yves Klein called "FC1" or "Fire Color 1". According to the head of Christie's post-war and contemporary art department, Brett Gorvy, the work is perhaps the best example of Klein available. Gorvy says the interesting history behind it makes it all the more attractive to collectors "Klein died of a heart attack at the age of 34 years old and he died two or three weeks after he made this painting and in fact his widow sees this painting as not only the culmination of his work, but a painting which through the exhaustion and the energy he had put into it, something which actually caused his final heart attack." Christies has estimated that the "FC1" will sell anywhere between 30 and 40 million dollars. The sale by Christies will no doubt draw in an excited group of buyers, on lookers and media, for Christie's post-war and contemporary art evening sale which will take place on New York on May 8th
