Foundation degree from Rochdale College of Art Fine Art degree from Manchester University and a teachers degree from Didsbury University.

Born 1944, Royton, Lancashire, England.

Terry has always been fascinated by thought provoking nostalgic mood images that evoke a sense of place and time. To help attain this he often uses various media such as pencil, Paint, pastel and charcoal.

The Isle of Man has proved to be an ideal setting having all the required elements that include it’s ever changing light, weather and numerous historic sites. It is this wealth of stunning imagery that compels him to investigate and develop his work on a daily basis here on the island now claimed as Terry’s true home.

He was employed in various roles up to the age of 35, including being a Taxi driver at one point. He always had the feeling that he had somehow  missed out .  So he decided to apply to Rochdale College of Art for a second time to study art, as the initial thirst for artistic knowledge had never diminished

His 'Claim to fame' is that, at school he came first in an all county Art Competition. He was presented with some small original sketches by L.S. Lowry. Terry had no idea who Lowry was and as a 13 year old did not rate the matchstick men and so did not keep them... 'Oh, how wise we are after the fact, eh'.

Education & Experience:

In 1959 he attended Rochdale College of Art, but after six months he had to leave the art course due to personal reasons.

He was accepted onto the foundation course on the merit of his work but still had to take O’Levels and A’Levels in other subjects. At that time, there were no opportunities to avail of a grant, so he needed to support not only himself but also a young family. In order to finance everything he took a job driving a Taxi cab and he worked six nights a week.

Terry went on to take a 3 year Fine Art Honours Degree at Manchester and from there the Teachers Degree (P.G.C.E.) at Didsbury.  He taught art in England for 3 years before moving to the Isle of Man in 1984 and retired as Head of Art at St Ninian’s High School in 2008.
