Gary Bennett

Born in 1962, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Gary has sketched and painted from an early age and was influenced by the dramatic North Antrim Coast where he grew up.

His earlier influences in Art were the celebrated Irish Artist the late Bobby Anderson, under whom, Gary counts himself fortunate to have studied and who was among the first to have introduced him to the techniques of the Watercolour medium. In addition to Bobby Anderson, Gary was also inspired by the Late John Piper who was a Graduate of both the Richmond School of Art & the Royal College of Art, whose artistic style of was likened to that great British artist Turner.

One of the first jobs Gary worked at in Northern Ireland was in the car manufacturing industry, his role was as a specialised Coach-builder and he worked on a variety of automobiles from the classic Mini to a vintage Rolls Royce.

After a number of years within this area, he decided that, he needed to go off travelling. Although he travelled extensively throughout the UK & Europe, where he found much inspiration to create everywhere he went. One can see that, Gary has not forgotten his roots and takes delight in creating truly powerful pieces, which depict the mysteries surrounding the County Antrim Coastline.

It is evident to see from his work that he possess a passion to simply create and capture the essence of his subject, no matter what that subject might be. The quality and attention to detail which Gary pays to each piece is amazing and yet he seems to be able to capture the essence of the landscapes, in relatively few brushstrokes.

Education & Experience:

Since moving to the Isle of Man with his family, Gary is once again taken by the varied terrain to be found here. This means he is once more inspired to create images of these vistas.

He continues to produce his commissioned pieces for the local Manx people as well as for export to the UK, Europe and further afield.

Since coming to the Isle of Man he has had several, successful exhibitions here and his Artworks now grace the walls of many UK and Northern Ireland homes and business’ as well as those of more distant shores.

Gary in presently, working on a collection of pieces, for a new show towards the end of 2010. Also his has been and continues to be associated with the Isle of Man’s most prestigious Art Exhibition Centre the Sayle Gallery.
