James Flynn

PORTRAIT & LANDSCAPE ARTIST

Born in 1982 in Sidcup, Kent, United Kingdom

After constantly drawing and painting throughout my childhood, the big turning point in my life was the discovery of the “London street art scene”.

My years involved in this particular art movement is something that still has a big influence on my work to this day. This artwork has been on a long venture, and I like to put all of my experience into every piece that I do.  I have always had a desire to actualize what I see in a unique way, and take pride in doing so.

During recent years I have spent a lot of time striving towards a realist style, and I hope that reflects through to my work, whatever it is that I am portraying.  The majority of my work is based upon people and portraits, and that is what I am mostly known for.  I enjoy pushing the boundaries as far as I can when painting, and strive towards creating original, fresh looking work.

My biggest aim when picking up a paintbrush is to create the image that I am seeing in my minds eye.I like to think that each time I paint I express the way I am feeling at that certain time, and that I create a kind of window to my thoughts for people to see.

Quite often I want my paintings to show energetic, bold , powerful marks to show the ferocity that I was feeling at that time.  I want people to stop and pay attention, and realise that they are taking a glimpse into my world.

The bulk of my work continues to be expressed through portraits and people, although I will use any subject or medium I can to express what I want to put forward.  I will always strive towards creating a visual world for myself and others to enjoy.

James first started to become recognised in the late nineties in the London graffiti scene, since this time he has progressed and moved into a more defined area of the arts.
