Valarie Connell
Degree as a Paralegal, BA in Psychology & MA in Clinical Counselling.
Born in Colorado, but raised in Texas, USA.
Valarie although originally highly qualified in areas outside the Arts, has in recent years been focusing more and more on her Art.
Valarie is a local Phoenix area Fantasy & Realism artist. Her creations adorn many homes, offices and public areas not only in the United States by in areas of Europe also. Most of these are in the hands of Private Collectors.
Valarie’s main medium, indeed her love is Pyrographics or Wood burning. We believe it must have something to do with the Elemental feel of using a natural product such as wood. She not only literally puts her stamp on this, but she also carves into the wood. The end result is one which is truly unique and bespoke; these factors are what is currently making her work more and more sought after.
With a name like Connell, you can imagine how she draws on her Celtic ancestry for inspiration in her creations. Whilst the end result my appear uncomplicated. It is in fact the culmination of many, many hours of work by Valarie, so that, we may enjoy the end product. All of her pieces undergo meticulous scrutiny as she says herself...”All of the pieces have taken many hours to produce, as I am a self confessed perfectionist when it comes to my creations. I try to ensure that, each piece is bespoke and that each contains the most detail possible.”
As a Pyrographic Artist, I try to mix the practical, spiritual and the artistic into each of my custom wood burned wall hangings. The subjects shown demonstrate the versatility of the medium in that, it allows me to create quite detailed Animal Spirits, Feng Shui & Totem Plaques as well as much larger pieces of outdoor furniture such as custom created wood garden benches.
Valarie works mostly with Pine, Agathis or other veneered plywood, as well as any other softer woods I can get my hands on. She has found that, the veneered plywood works best with a very clean and even burn.
She says...”I also use different stains to accent and complete the piece. I have found that stains really do help make the piece explode into life and enhance the 3Dimencial aspect of the artwork.”
Along with her wood burning & Carving skills, she is a very talented Portrait artist, photographer and Digital media artist too.
